Eastern Anglican Church Women support Cree translations

Published September 1, 2003

Anglican Church Women (ACW) groups in the diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island raised a total of $5,500 in 2002 towards a Cree translation project in the diocese of Moosonee.

The contribution will provide funding for a Cree syllabic font, to be installed on a translator?s computer and for bilingual service booklets to be published in Cree and English.

The theme of the project was Many Languages ? One Prayer and the intent was to enable Cree speakers to participate more fully in Anglican church services.

Contributions received exceeded the project goal by about $500, according to the ACW.

?How wonderful to have your child baptized in your own language, to be confirmed in your own language and to be married in your own language,? read the ACW report on the project.
