Bishop Paterson Theological College in Kohimarama on the island of Guadalcanal, has started to enroll women in theological training, and three women, endorsed by their respective dioceses, have been offered a place at the college.

In the past, the Anglican college has enrolled women but only as sisters from the two women’s religious communities, the Community of the Sisters of Melanesia and the Community of the Sisters of the Church.

Anglican Archbishop Sir Ellison Pogo said the enrollment was not necessarily to prepare the three women for ordained ministry but that it was something the church was working toward like other member churches in the Anglican Communion.
