Chaplains gather

More than 400 people from around the world attended an inaugural international gathering of university chaplains in Vancouver in June.

The multi-faith gathering attracted people from six continents and seven world religions, among them a dozen Canadian Anglicans, said Tom Sherwood, ecumenical chaplain at Carleton University in Ottawa.

Among the keynote speakers was Senator Douglas Roche, who expressed concern that higher education be infused with spiritual and ethical values, and Sulayman Nyang, a Muslim from Gambia who addressed the changes taking place on university campuses as a result of globalization.
