General Synod Treasurer Michele George has resigned, effective Oct. 1. She said health reasons and “wanting to spend more time with my family” were the reasons behind her “very, very difficult” decision. A chartered accountant and veteran of the health care and not-for-profit sectors, George was hired in 2009 during a period of restructuring that included downsizing and staff layoffs. In a memo to staff, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, paid tribute to George’s work, saying that the church has “benefited from her expertise and experience in financial management.”-Marites N.
