Three parishes close

Published February 1, 2004

Three of the six Anglican parishes in Niagara Falls, Ont. are facing closure. With dwindling attendance, St. Stephen’s church voted to disestablish last November and held its last service on Dec. 28. Parishioners of St. Martin and All Saints were scheduled to hold votes in February on whether to dissolve. If they choose to disestablish, a new parish will rise from the ashes of St. Martin with a new name ? the Church of the Nativity. It is expected the new parish would open in September.

Combined, the three parishes carry a $400,000 debt load with the diocese, said Archdeacon Marion Vincett. All Saints, established in 1840, will remain a chapel of the new parish.
