The three main information tools of the Anglican Church of Canada were honored at a meeting of Associated Church Press last month for their coverage of last summer’s meeting of General Synod.

MinistryMatters, the magazine distributed to clergy and lay leaders, received an award of merit from the international church press group for its coverage in the Fall, 2001 issue.

The September, 2001, special section on General Synod published by the Anglican Journal, received an honorable mention, as did coverage on the Web site, www.anglican.ca.

The Journal also received an honorable mention for a series of diocesan profiles that, over a period of three years, featured each of the Anglican Church of Canada’s 30 dioceses.

The Web site received an honorable mention for news coverage. That article, by Web site manager Leanne Larmondin, was a humorous description of bureaucratic difficulties General Synod organizers encountered when they planned a joing service with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada in a public arena. Organizers found themselves mired in red tape because wine was to be served at the event.

Top honors in the awards program went to the general interest magazine Sojourners and to Episcopal Life, the newspaper of the U.S. Episcopal church.

In other business, the ACP convention elected Ms Larmondin to its executive board.

ACP has 175 members with combined circulations of more than 28 million readers.
