Emblematic of the general outpouring of goodwill in the wake of the northern Alberta fires is the recent decision by the High Prairie School District and Alberta Education to grant Grade 12 diplomas to students, based on their current academic standing. Many schools are closed and will not reopen in time to prepare for final examinations.

“Our primary concern is the immediate safety and well-being of our displaced students and their families,” said Margaret Hartman of the High Prairie School District. “And students have already completed most of the year’s course requirements.”
