On June 10, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ont., will bestow an honorary doctor of divinity degree on the Rev. Michael Pryse, bishop of the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. A synodal bishop since 1998, he also serves as co-chair of the Joint Anglican-Lutheran Commission.

Bishop Pryse is committed to the cause of Christian unity and is a strong advocate for ecumenical co-operation. He also has a keen interest in questions of global justice and international development.

“Bishop Pryse is an outstanding leader in the church and the community,” said the Rev. David Pfrimmer, principal-dean of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. “This recognition is a wonderful affirmation of his leadership and the kind of leaders that graduate from both the university and the seminary.” Bishop Pryse is an alumnus of both institutions, taking his undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier and his divinity training at the seminary.
