Rwandan update

Published January 1, 2002

St. George’s Anglican church in the diocese of Brandon provided an update on the progress of a Rwandan refugee family that the parish helped settle in Canada.

Onesphore Uwitije, his wife Vestine and their three children fled Rwanda several years ago when it was ripped apart by inter-tribal warfare. They made their way to South Africa, then settled in Brandon, Man. last March.

A refugee support team at the parish helped the family face the many challenges of their new land.

Today, Mr. and Mrs. Uwitije are employed at a local factory and the children are adapting well to school, the parish reported.
