Rectory converted

Published November 1, 2002

An Anglican rectory in Peterborough, Ont. was turned into affordable housing for six older women in late July. The downtown congregation of St. John?s on Hunter St. voted to lease the 93-year-old rectory building to the Peterborough Community Housing Development Corp. for use by low-income tenants.

The Older Women’s Network chose the new tenants and the city provided a $25,000 low-interest loan. The three-story building was renovated in part by church volunteers who worked from id-May to July.
