Native students graduate

The first 19 graduates of an indigenous Anglican theology program have received their diplomas at the spring convocation of the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad held at the Third Avenue United Church in Saskatoon.

The students, who are from northern Ontario and Manitoba, studied under a program run jointly by the Saskatoon-based College of Emmanuel St. Chad,  the Dr. William Winter School in Kingfisher Lake, Ont., and the diocese of Keewatin. Completion of the diploma fulfills one prerequisite for ordination in the diocese of Keewatin.

To earn the diploma, students attended eight 14-day residential summer and winter sessions offered by the Dr. William Winter School over a four-year period, and completed required readings and assignments. They also underwent three internship sessions in a parish in the diocese of Keewatin.
