Lutherans elect woman

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) elected its first woman bishop at its Saskatchewan synod in July. Rev. Cynthia G. Halmarson, 47, will be ordained as bishop of the Saskatchewan synod on Sept. 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Regina. Bishop Allan Grundahl, the incumbent, had announced plans to retire before the convention.
