The newly formed board of directors of the Anglican Journal Corporation has elected Rev. Robert Towler of Huron president. A priest from Kitchener, Ont., Mr. Towler serves on General Synod?s Information Resources Committee, and has served on the Huron communications committee and as media relations assistant to former Bishop Percy O?Driscoll.

The board?s inaugural meeting in August also elected Bishop Donald Young of Central Newfoundland as vice president. Bishop Young was an associate diocesan editor for about 20 years and is a former president of the Anglican Editors? Association.

The board confirmed four other officers of the corporation: Vianney (Sam) Carriere as editor of the Journal and MinistryMatters, Beverley Murphy to oversee circulation and database management, General Synod treasurer Jim Cullen as corporation treasurer, and Ana Watts, editor of the Fredericton diocesan newspaper, as secretary.

The board agreed to propose to the Council of General Synod that it take over publication of the Anglican Journal effective Jan. 1, 2003.

The Anglican Journal was incorporated to ensure that the national newspaper as well as the diocesan newspapers that are distributed with it can continue publication in the event that General Synod becomes insolvent.
