Huron to elect bishop

Published March 1, 2002

The diocese of Huron will hold an electoral synod on June 15 to elect a new suffragan (or assistant) bishop. The new bishop will replace Bishop Robert Townshend, who retired in January after serving 18 years as bishop.

The diocese formed an episcopal commission last year to consider issues concerning the suffragan’s position, including criteria for candidates and whether or not the diocesan bishop should be given the option of filling the position by appointment.
