Honorary doctorate

Bishop Philip Poole, suffragan (assistant) bishop of the diocese of Toronto, was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree by Trinity College on May 8. “Vibrant energy marks his presence, whether in preaching or fundraising, chairing a committee or at a football game,” said diocesan bishop Colin Johnson, in presenting Bishop Poole for the degree. Bishop Poole was head of divinity at Trinity College from 1976 to 1977 and “was a significant figure in Trinity’s governance,” said Bishop Johnson, who also noted that Bishop Poole has provided leadership in diocesan and national church financial development. He is also president of the Compass Rose Society, which raises funds for the work of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion.
