His blue heaven

Published October 1, 2003

A priest in the diocese of Edmonton has agreed to let the church’s Sunday school children dye his hair blue if they can match his weight in quarters.

Rev. David Lehmann, incumbent of St. James church in Bonnyville, Alta., will use the money from the My Blue Heaven fundraiser to defray travel costs between that church and two others where he also serves as rector: St. John’s, Cold Lake, and St. John’s, St. Paul. The three churches span a distance of more than 100 kilometres, which adds up to about $1,800 monthly travel expenses.

The children will need to raise about $6,500, or 26,000 quarters, to match Mr. Lehmann’s 104 kilograms.
