The board of directors of the Anglican Journal has elected Bishop George Elliott, suffragan bishop for York-Simcoe, diocese of Toronto, as its president.
Rev. Rob Towler of Kitchener, Ont., diocese of Huron, who has served as president for the past six years, will sit as past president. Dion Lewis of Verdun, Que., diocese of Montreal, will continue as vice-president and Catherine Pate of Winnipeg, diocese of Rupert’s Land, will serve as secretary.
At the one-day board meeting held Oct. 24, the board heard staff reports, reappointed Keith Knight to an additional six-month term as interim editor until July 2009, and dealt with the impact of financial cuts at the national office.
Bishop Elliott was elected bishop in December 2000 and was consecrated area bishop of York-Simcoe in 2001. Born in 1949, he received his master of divinity degree from Wycliffe College and the Toronto School of Theology in 1979. Priested in 1980, he has served various parishes in the diocese of Toronto, including all Saints, King City and St. Stephens, Maple, Ont.
He also served as regional dean and has been active on a number of diocesan committees and community activities.
