Church choir nets CBC award

Organist, choirmaster John Tuttle conducts the St. Thomas’s church choir. He also conducts Toronto’s Exultate Chamber Singers.

The choir of St. Thomas’s church, Toronto, won first prize in the church choir segment of the CBC’s national choral competition held recently.

The choir sang Ubi caritas et amor by Maurice Durufle and the Sanctus and Benedictus from the Mass for Double Choir by Frank Martin.

Organist and choirmaster John Tuttle conducts the St. Thomas’s church choir. He also conducts the Exultate Chamber Singers of Toronto, which was awarded first prize in the chamber choir segment and the Healey Willan Grand Prize, for best over-all performance in the bi-annual competition.

“Music is a vital part of St. Thomas’s liturgy,” said Barbara Obrai, parish administrator.
