Better safe …

Church secretaries and administrators got tips on safety and security at a recent workshop in St. Paul’s, Hazeldean/Kanata in the diocese of Ottawa. A police officer, a firefighter and a martial arts instructor made presentations on personal and fire safety and self defense.

A black belt martial arts instructor advised staff never to trust anyone who tells them not to scream and promises not to hurt them.

Moratorium lifted

The executive committee of the diocese of Algoma has lifted its moratorium on the use of memorial /scattering gardens after a meeting with Cora dela Cruz, registrar of cemeteries for the province.

Questions had arisen about the status and liability of some of the cemeteries and memorial gardens in the diocese. Regional deans prepared a survey of the cemeteries and memorial gardens and their current status to learn how many complied with current law.
