Camp threatened

Published January 1, 2002

Camp Columbia in the diocese of British Columbia is showing a substantial loss because of weaker than anticipated attendance. Deficits are threatening the camp’s future.

Only 11 of 56 parishes took advantage of weekend events at the camp last year, leaving it empty for part of the year, said John Moran, director of administration and finance for the diocese. Only two clergy members found time to act as chaplains to summer camps.

The diocese is calling for input from its parishes on the camp’s future.
