On Monday, March 1, people around the world celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel landmines becoming international law. To mark the milestone, churches across Canada rang their bells for 10 minutes, beginning at 5 p.m. In Ottawa, the bell ringing coincided with a march from the University of Ottawa to the Human Rights Monument, organized by Ottawa’s Youth Mine Action Ambassador and Mines Action Canada.
