Most. Rev. Percy O’Driscoll has announced he plans to retire on Oct. 31 as bishop of the Diocese of Huron and Metropolitan of Ontario.
Archbishop O’Driscoll told a surprised executive committee of his plans at its December meeting. He noted that he has been the 10th diocesan bishop of Huron for the last decade and an archbishop since 1993. He said the demands of the position of bishop are massive and unrelenting. He said he is getting tired and does not recuperate as quickly as he once did.
Archbishop O’Driscoll also said the diocese needs new vision and energy as it enters a new millennium. The archbishop will ask the May synod for a bishop co-adjutor to be elected in September.
