A collection of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s essays and lectures during his decade of leadership as symbolic head of the Anglican Communion and senior bishop of the Church of England will be released this September.

Faith in the Public Square, published by Continuum, is described as a compilation of several of Archbishop Rowan Williams’ “interventions into the public discourse,” on a gamut of issues ranging from Muslims and citizenship to society’s shunning of the elderly.

It will be a farewell book for Williams, 62, who will be stepping down from Lambeth Palace at the end of the year to become Master of Magdalene College at Cambridge University in January, 2013.

Williams – who presided over the 77-million Anglican Communion during one of its most difficult periods- is a noted theologian, academic, author and poet.  Since the 1970s, he has written about philosophy, theology and spirituality and since his appointment as archbishop in 2002, began focusing more on contemporary cultural, social and interfaith issues.

The book is available for pre-order here.
