A bit of clowning around

Dick Hardel, who founded Christ Clown College in the United States and has been active in clown ministry since 1973, will be the keynote speaker of a Lutheran youth gathering August 12-15, in Hamilton, Ont. Trained by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus clowns, Mr. Hardel has also been active in youth and family ministry in Minnesota.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) holds a gathering every two years for youth ages 14 to 19. Anglican youth have also been invited to attend the gathering. (The Anglican Church of Canada and ELCIC have been in full communion since 2001).

The theme for this year’s gathering is Listen Up, which, according to an ELCIC news release, “refers to our need to listen to God, to one another and to ourselves, especially as we try to determine what is our place in the world – our vocation.”
