Capt. Suleyman Demiray
Capt. Suleyman Demiray, 37, an imam from the Ottawa area, graduated from the chaplain basic officer training course on Dec. 10 at the Trinity Chapel, Canadian Forces Base, Borden, Ont., becoming the first Muslim chaplain in the history of the Canadian Forces. Course graduates also included the first regular force Salvation Army chaplain since the Second World War, Capt. Patrick Lublink, and the first Evangelical Free Church of Canada chaplain in the Canadian Forces, Capt. Greg Costen. The Canadian Forces, with 60,000 members, employ 311 chaplains.
