African expert hired

Brown

A former general secretary of the Canadian Council of Churches with a PhD in Islamic Studies has been hired as the Anglican Church of Canada’s regional mission co-ordinator for Africa and the Middle East.

Stuart Brown worked most recently in Kenya as a general adviser to the Project for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa. Prior to that he was general secretary to the CCC and before that a program secretary for Christian-Muslim relations with the World Council of Churches in Geneva. Dr. Brown has also taught courses in Islam and African history and has spent a number of years living in Africa.

He has written and edited a number of books, many focusing on Christian – Muslim relations. Dr. Brown is fluent in English, French and Arabic and reads an additional four languages. He began his position with the church in January.
