A natural amphitheatre in the desert near Drumheller, Alta. is the site of the annual Canadian Badlands Passion Play, scheduled for July 4-6 and 11-13, and marking its 15th anniversary this summer. A cast of 150 dramatizes the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at a site that evokes “the stark, dramatic countryside around Jerusalem,” according to a 2006 review in Calgary’s FFWD magazine. The amphitheatre seats 2,500 people and the three-hour production features a “Scripture-based script, music, realistic set and costumes,” according to the production’s Web site, www.canadianpassionplay.com.
