Dion Oxford was recently honored for his work among the homeless.
An Anglican who runs a homeless shelter in downtown Toronto has received the “Me to We” Award from the Free the Children Foundation and Canadian Living Magazine in recognition of his work in the area of social justice.
Dion Oxford, who founded a homeless shelter and created a linen service that provides jobs for homeless men, was given the award in front of a crowd of 8,000 on Oct. 17.
Mr. Oxford “came to Toronto from Newfoundland 18 years ago to be a rock star,” said the diocese of Toronto’s Web site, www.toronto.anglican.ca “He never made it to the big stage, but he has become a hero of sorts to thousands of Canadians.”
