With the prospect of a 2012 budget deficit of $900,000 looming large, General Synod is on the hunt for a new treasurer to replace Michele George, who resigned Oct. 1.
According to Rob Dickson, chair of the search committee, the treasurer must be someone who sees change as an opportunity. “We’re in turbulent times and we need somebody who is keen to pick up that challenge,” Dickson told the Anglican Journal.
Dickson, who is also chair of the financial management committee at General Synod, added that “there’s still tremendous health in the organization; we’re not down and out by any means.” General Synod, the governing body of the Anglican Church of Canada, is also in the process of restructuring its governance.
The search committee hopes to interview a short list of candidates by the end of November. Dickson said the Council of General Synod (CoGS), which meets November 15 to 18, could be asked to approve the hiring in an e-mail vote.
The other members of the search committee include: Bishop James Cowan of the diocese of British Columbia; Monica Patten, chair of the Resources for Mission Committee of General Synod; Dan Waterston, member of the financial management committee of General Synod; and Archdeacon Michael Thompson, general secretary of the Anglican Church of Canada.
