Obituary: Sister Philippa

Sister Philippa, a member of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine (SSJD) and chief executive officer of St. John’s Rehab Hospital in Toronto for 27 years, died on Sept. 1. She was 85.

Born Dorothy Watson in Winnipeg in 1922, she entered the SSJD on Sept. 1, 1949, after obtaining an arts degree from the University of Manitoba and a library science degree from the University of Toronto.

 Sr. Philippa was the CEO of St. John’s Rehab Hospital from 1969 to 1996, where she oversaw many changes, including new additions to its buildings.

After retirement from the hospital, she continued to work on several of its boards and committees and also did archival work at the convent.”

Sr. Phillipa is survived by niece Heather Madonald,  brother-in-law Ian Barron,  many cousins and great-nephews
