A writer and spiritual director in the diocese of Toronto has been appointed interim executive director of the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). Adele Finney is no stranger to PWRDF. Since 1997, she has worked with the organization’s parish and diocesan partnership program, as fundraising and promotions co-ordinator, and as communications co-ordinator. From 2006 to 2007, she also worked as interim executive director while Cheryl Curtis., whose resignation is effective at the end of February, was on maternity leave.

Announcing Finney’s appointment, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, said she is “known and respected for her capacity for nurturing good collegial relations in living out the mandate of PWRDF. She is deeply committed to the principle of partnership in realizing the vision for a just, healthy, and peaceful world.”

Finney steps in at a difficult time for PWRDF, following a budget cut of 26 per cent for 2010-2011 and significant staffing changes. Archbishop Hiltz, who is also president of the PWRDF board of directors, said “she is aware of the challenges and opportunities within PWRDF at this time and is prepared to work with us all in addressing them.”

Finney will begin her nine-month interim term on March 29. In the meanwhile, Elsa Tesfay, development team leader, will serve as acting interim executive director.
