Canon Felix Honeygold, who recently celebrated his 70th anniversary of ordination as a priest, died on March 17 in his 98th year.

Mr. Honeygold served St. Michael’s and All Angels church in St. John’s, Nfld., for 20 years and was a senior priest in the diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ordained on Nov. 28, 1937, Mr. Honeygold had been a deacon to the Anglican parish of Port de Grave, Nfld; he also spent seven years serving the communities on the Northern Peninsula, which includes the fishing centre of Port au Choix.

Originally from Glenfield, England, he moved to Canada in 1930. Mr Honeygold said he decided to become a priest because “I just wanted to be useful, to serve.”

Archbishop Fred Hiltz, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, had visited Mr. Honeygold at his residence at Saint Luke’s Homes during a trip to the diocese last February.
