As children of creation in the family of the Almighty, we stand on shifting sands of time, where the landscape before us evolves and changes by the moment. What was yesterday is not like today, nor will it be the same tomorrow. With this reality, we as Christians need to be alert, awake and aware. Are we growing in faith, or are we like flotsam carried by time and the whims of the world? All things change because they are imperfect, except the One who is perfect, true and forever—the Almighty One.
Our church and faith are evolving and transitioning as well. What was once known as Indigenous Ministries is now being renamed as the office of Sacred Circle. The new title is inclusive and speaks more to the diversity of the Indigenous peoples of the land. It also challenges the church to see and acknowledge that Indigenous ministries are not just for Indigenous peoples, but for all Christians, especially as we strive to walk with each other in faith and body. Indigenous ministry is not apart from, but integral to, the body of Christ and church.
Change is not to be feared but to be acknowledged. All creation and its constituent living entities grow and evolve. The body transitions but the essence remains, which is why when all things are changing and evolving, God our Creator knows us personally and loves us, because our Creator God knows our very essence. In this relationship, through the storms of change, God holds us. We cannot be pulled away by any storm of change as long as we hold onto the rock and refuge of our faith.
