Video wins award

Anglican Video has won a Bronze Reel Award at the International Television and Video Association Festival for the program The Power Within: Healing Through Prayer. The award will be presented in Washington, D.C. in June. The Power Within airs on Vision TV June 22 and 23. Produced and directed by Lisa Barry, senior producer for Anglican Video, the video took two years to make and involved interviewing physicians, theologians, healers, chaplains and people who believe they’ve been healed through prayer. The crew traveled in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. – including a visit to Burrswood, an Anglican healing centre. A spin-off book called Healing through Prayer: Health Practitioners Tell the Story, based on the interviews with such people as Drs. Larry Dossey and Herbert Benson, is due out in mid-June. Both the book and video will be available at bookstores across Canada and through the Anglican Book Centre. Book and video orders can also be placed on-line at www.healingprayer.org (beginning June 14).

Teacher honoured

A teacher at a private Anglican girls’ school has received the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Wendy Maxwell, a French teacher for primary grades at The Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, got the news May 13. She developed the Pared-down Language program, which uses drama, music and a kinesthetic method called The Gesture Approach, to help students learn French.
