Bishop urges negotiation

Bishop Ralph Spence of Niagara has urged the management and union of one of the biggest employers in Hamilton, Ont., to “negotiate in a spirit of cooperation, mediation and reconciliation,” saying a “creative solution” will be found to resolve its financial crisis.

Stelco, a steelmaker which employs thousands of residents in the Hamilton area, recently filed for bankruptcy protection, a move that could cost workers their jobs.
