Dean John van Nostrand Wright, formerly of Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, has been appointed executive director of the Anglican Foundation. Mr. Wright, who is 62, currently lives in La Have, N.S., and intends to move to Toronto. He was to start June 1.

A cousin of Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, the primate, Mr. Wright is the former dean of British Columbia and rector of Victoria’s Christ Church Cathedral. “He has over 36 years of ministry and has served in six dioceses and three ecclesiastical provinces,” the Anglican Foundation said in an announcement. He succeeds Canon John Erb, who died last July.

Mr. Wright is currently dean emeritus of Columbia (diocese of British Columbia); co-chair of the Conference of Cathedral Deans, Spouses and Partners of North America; Chevalier, the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem and a member of the Royal United Services Institute of Victoria Island, the Air Force Officers’ Association and the honorary board of St. John Ambulance, Victoria Branch.

In 1999, Mr. Wright was disciplined by the diocese after parents of students at the cathedral school complained to then-bishop Barry Jenks that Mr. Wright had made inappropriate, sexually-suggestive remarks in front of the students. A diocesan review committee in 2001 directed that he remove himself from daily operations of the cathedral school and apologize to the complainants.
