B.C. delegation to visit Myanmar

A delegation of six members, one from each deanery in the Diocese of British Columbia, will visit the Church of the Province of Myanmar, formerly Burma, in November. Their visit is part of a companionship between the diocese and the province. Bishop Barry Jenks recently returned from a two-week visit, which included five of the six dioceses that make up the Province of Myanmar. He reported that though Myanmar is under the control of a repressive regime, people talk freely about their dissatisfaction with the government. The military government favours the Buddhist majority and prohibits Christians from evangelizing or proselytizing. But in spite of these restrictions, the Anglican Church is growing by leaps and bounds, the bishop says. Diocesan Post
