Since its inception in 1992, the Anglican Church of Canada’s indigenous healing and reconciliation fund has spent about $774,000 on various programs and activities aimed at helping native Canadians who may have been harmed in their relations with the church.

The projects include conferences, counselling and therapy, resource development, youth gatherings, training and workshops. For 2001, the total budget for the fund is more than $300,000. “Donations to the indigenous healing fund have flowed in steadily throughout the summer months. Many individuals, parishes and dioceses have contributed generously, for which we give thanks,” wrote General Secretary Jim Boyles in a recent update on the residential schools crisis.

In an occasional series beginning next month, the Anglican Journal, will look at healing projects around the country that are being supported by the national fund.
