---Stigma occurs on three levels: social, self and professional. Social stigma is “a belief held by a large faction of society in which persons with the stigmatized condition are part of an inferior group”

"Stigma" does not "occur".

It, like all prejudices, requires a teacher, has to be learned. It requires someone willing to teach it, and someone receptive to learning it. The inference, "an inferior group" requires, of course, someone postulating a "superior" group.

Basically it is the pretense, "Us" , "Them".

I'd also like to recognize the work of our Anglican Downtown Eastside Ministry led by Father Matthew Johnson and Deacon Joyce Locht and their team. As a member of the Advisory Committee, I'm excited by the initiatives underway, particularly new initiatives involving ministry to front line workers. Although the usual street work has had to be curtailed, the ministry is working with other agencies on the Downtown Eastside. Thanks for your update and insight here, Philip.
