As a young man I worked part-time at BSS. First as a Kitchen Helper and later in the Maintenance department. I often worked behind the scenes with many people from different backgrounds, languages and religions. The work was challenging at times but the rewards paid for themselves - and helped pay for my university degree in history. I'll always be thankful for the opportunity to contribute to a workplace, to learn about the world of work, and to come to appreciate a job well done. I'm especially thankful to Bishop Ann Tottenham who might have saw me as a dashing young man and said a prayer for me.

Bishop Tottenham ,
Her great gift to her girls when she was head of BSS was that she had faith in her girls. In the case of my youngest of 8 children, a super athlete, Rev Tottenham allowed her to leave school for required training as a skier for the Ontario junior development team. This meant missing a lot of school. It only pushed this girl to the best she could in everything. Today with 3 excellent degrees behind her ,B.A. Williams college,Sciences Johns Hopkins and MD Dartmouth University and Masters in teaching OISE. Today she is a physician on staff at Toronto Western Hospital. Thanks to a very wise woman .
We are so grateful for your wisdom Bishop Tottenham.
