Thieves plague churches

Thieves are plaguing churches in Nigeria, invading them during Sunday worship services, stealing cell phones, money, cars, music stereos and other valuables.

The clergy say the thieves enter the churches on Sundays like other worshippers. While prayers are being said, they rifle handbags and remove valuables such as cell phones, or break into cars parked outside to steal stereos.

“You know we can’t rule out the work of the evil even in the church,” Rev. Benjamin Nasara, pastor of the Evangelical Church of West Africa, told his congregation in the central Nigerian city of Jos, at a Sunday service.
