Although it may seem that General Synod 2001 was just yesterday, planning for General Synod 2004 has started, said General Secretary Jim Boyles.

The General Synod planning committee, which includes Mr. Boyles, Dean Nicholas Parker of St. Paul?s Cathedral in Kamloops, B.C., Canon William Prentice of the diocese of Ottawa and Rev. Stephen Hopkins of Niagara, looked at potential synod sites in the diocese of Niagara, which will be hosting the next gathering.

McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. and Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont. were visited, said Mr. Boyles. As a result, General Synod will be held in St. Catharines the first week of June 2004, planners said.

It is likely that this General Synod will include a primatial election since Archbishop Michael Peers, the current primate, will be at retirement age.
