Great to read this article on the Deaconate ministry. Particularly to note that what happens in my country, Nigeria, is the transitional deaconate rather than the vocational. Thank you for the exposition.

Thank you for this report. Re: "For Berezan, becoming a deacon felt like an affirmation of what he was already doing. “Our wonderful Bishop Melissa [Skelton]…said, ‘We really hope that it’s a continuity for people—it’s a way of saying, you are ministering to the church and the world as a deacon, and we would like to ordain you to really bless and affirm that.’ " . . . I'd like to suggest that several of the older women in the Anglican Church Women group in our parish are absolutely, completely, and totally devoted to the type of service described in the article. What stops them from being ordained, i.e., what stops the church from recognizing their giftedness and calling which they are already excercising"

The true signs of deacons are not inside the church edifice as mentioned. Deacons are a servant culture of pastoral purpose and efforts with the support on a daily to weekly journey of care and service to the community of outreach. Diocese need to reimagine this with at least 7 to one priests as the parish life is necessary 24 and 7 not from 7 am to 11 am on any Sunday morning. Deacons are the front door exit of foundations of parish life. My late godfather Dr. Gordon Baker taught me that in 1966, and today Deacons need to be in community not beside the alter, that is for Liturgical Duty.
