I am a 68 year old, and I think changing the Marriage Canon is premature. This issue is a complex one, theologically speaking. So, I am pleased to hear the House of Bishops are finally discussing the hidden "authority" issues. May I point out, Anglicanism, as it emerged in the 16th century, was never too clear what "orthodox" Christian faith was. We never clearly articulated orthodox Christianity. So, the Church of England claimed to be a "via media". Anglicanism has evolved with a flaw. There is an inability to do doctrinal thinking. Even more, there is disdain amongst Progressive Liberal Christians towards old, orthodox theological statements. There is an intellecual laziness in our Church. Being an Anglican means a willingness to live with some theological tensions, some theological ambiguities. I see the House of Bishops finally waking up, finally becoming conscious of the full meaning of this issue, all the dimensions of this issue (or issues).
Secondily, I am amazed about how full their agenda is. So many social justice issues. Man on man, bishops face many issues. I do try and pray for our bishops. Shouldn't more of us be praying for the Bishops? They have an impossible task, and they, of all people, need God's grace and God's guidance.
