The torch is being passed from the “duty” generation to the “boomer” generation to pay the bills. Trouble is, there aren’t enough boomers in the pews to carry the load. As the duty generation dies off, so to will our best and most faithful givers. Our oldest boomers are 73 – by 2030 the church will be half of what it is today.

The trend away from giving to national churches is a common problem in many denominations.

One of the things to look at is the PRDF giving: is it up or down? Often, these sorts of agencies maintain or increase giving. There are lessons to be learned.

I would suggest that congregational contributions to/through the diocese do not make sense to many church members. When parishes begin to “own” their finances, things may change.

I shall continue my level of financial support but know many will walk away from the Anglican Church of Canada, taking with them hurt, anger, and dollars.
