A member of the Melanesian Brotherhood, Nathaniel Sado, was killed in late April by a band of rebels on the island of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. A requiem mass for Brother Sado was held by members of the Anglican order on April 25. “The brother has sacrificed his life for peace,” said Bishop Terry Brown of Malaita in the province of Melanesia, in an e-mail to the Anglican Church of Canada’s national office. The rebels were also holding six members of the brotherhood and Archbishop Ellison Pogo said he would write to rebel leader Harold Keke to try to secure their release. The Melanesian Brotherhood has been involved in several peacemaking efforts in the Solomon Islands, which has seen fighting by various warring factions in the past few years.
