Parishes to get help

Diocesan council of New Westminster will assist parishes with leaking buildings. Treasurer Jim Stewart said that so far three parishes have shown serious ?leaky envelope? problems.

Changes in building technology when the leaking buildings were constructed in the late 1970s and the 1980s caused water to seep into the roof structures or walls. The same era produced Greater Vancouver?s ?leaky condo? problem, Mr. Stewart said.

Each building ? St. Andrew, Langley, St. John, North Vancouver, and St. Laurence, Coquitlam, may cost up to $300,000 to fix, Mr. Stewart told the September meeting of diocesan council. Council agreed to provide up to $50,000 for each parish with the parishes making up the difference.
