It's good to identify different emotions and responses and clear them, but I'm getting concerned that these ongoing dialogues about white feelings will mask the underlying and deeply rooted issue, which is that we MUST give up our sense of white superiority, and all the benefits and amenities we receive from being white. That's all we need to be talking about right now, as wallowing in emotions and centering our feelings as white people does NOT represent progress or social change. In my own journey, when I discovered the depth of the depravity of white supremacy; and that our entire society is built on white supremacist values; and that everything, virtually everything in our society is engineered for the comfort and familiarity of white people; I was discombobulated for A COUPLE OF DAYS. After that I realized it's WASN'T about my emotional reaction, I did not create the system of deadly racism and inequality we are dealing with today (another generation of white European patriarchs did), and that I DO NOT agree with that oppression IN ANY WAY, and that the only useful and true response I could make in these times is to take responsibility and ACT. If white people actually got down to reversing racism instead of wallowing in our feelings we could actually change the system. Emotions are important, but truly (other than for a couple of days), we do NOT have to take systemic racism and white supremacy PERSONALLY. Remember - "Humans are not fundamentally flawed creatures. That is a myth perpetuated by industrial capitalism in order to naturalize the behavior of violent imperialists. They are the insane." (Deep Green Resistance) To hold this objective knowledge in your heart and mind at all times is truly empowering.
