The board of directors of the Anglican Journal, the national newspaper of the Anglican Church of Canada, has confirmed the appointment of Kristin Jenkins as Journal editor.

Ms. Jenkins, who has 23 years of experience in journalism and corporate communications, is currently communications co-ordinator of the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), the relief and development arm of the Canadian Anglican church.

An award-winning journalist and communicator, Ms. Jenkins worked as editor-in-chief of various magazines, including Glow Health magazine (2005 to 2006), Look Good Feel Better Magazine (2002 to 2006), Healthwatch (1996 to 2000), Canadian Pediatrics (1991 to 1993), Owl Canadian Family (1996 to 2000), and TV Guide (2000 to 2001). She worked as executive editor of Chatelaine magazine (1995 to 1996), editorial director of Custom Communications, clinical editor of Family Practice newspaper (1990 to 1991), and associate editor of The Medical Post newspaper (1986 to 1990).

Before joining the PWRDF last October, Ms. Jenkins worked for the Canadian Health Network, which provided original health content for the consumer Web site of the Public Health Agency of Canada. She also worked as contributing editor for the Canadian Health magazine (2006 to 2008), and copy editor for the Toronto Star (May to August 2007).

Among the awards that Ms. Jenkins has received are: Award of Merit, National Mature Media Awards honouring the best in advertising, marketing and educational materials for older adults (2002); Best profile, Kenneth R. Wilson Memorial Award (Newfoundland’s Jewel, The Medical Post, 1992); and Best General Article, Kenneth R. Wilson Memorial Award (Walking on the Top of the World, The Medical Post, 1989)

The Journal board confirmed Ms. Jenkin’s appointment in an e-mail vote, said Vianney Carriere, director of the Anglican Church of Canada’s communications and information resources department. Ms. Jenkin’s appointment was recommended by a selection panel that met and conducted interviews of applicants to the position on May 13.

Ms. Jenkins’ “resume and her responses to the varied topics covered by the interview were extremely impressive,” said Mr. Carriere in an announcement sent to the staff at General Synod, the Anglican Church of Canada’s governing body.

Ms. Jenkins succeeds Leanne Larmondin, who resigned as editor in May 2008, and Keith Knight, who has served as interim editor since July 2008.

The Journal board also approved a motion expressing its “deep gratitude” to Keith Knight, interim editor, “for his leadership and stewardship of the newspaper in the past year.” Mr. Knight will continue as interim editor until end of June.

Ms. Jenkins will assume the position in early July.
