Members of the Micmac community gathered at Listuguj in the Gaspé peninsula recently to celebrate the launch of the New Testament in their Native language, Mi’gmewei. The translation is the result of a three-decade long partnership between the Micmac people, the Canadian Bible Society and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Rev. Greg Bailey, national director of the Canadian Bible Society, asked God to empower his word among the Micmac people making its message, “as straight as an arrow.” About 11,000 Micmacs live in the Maritimes and Quebec. Of those, 6,000 still use their Native language.
